Ai Weiwei
Ai Weiwei (pronounced A Wayway), many of you may have not of heard of him. He is a Chinese artist who has been outspoken of the Chinese government and has suffered because of that; they kidnapped him and he was reported missing by his family and they did not know where he was. After eighthly one days of detention and due to international pressure, the Chinese government released their ‘dissident.’
He lives in the outskirts of Beijing. He is followed everywhere and has cameras watching his home and every move. He had his passport taken off him and is banned from leaving China.
The question is why? Well, Ai Weiwei is a campaigner for human rights and democracy which is not respected, by the Chinese government, in the Peoples’ Republic of China which has Stalinist type rule of its people.
Ai Weiwei is a very good artist. He filled the Tate Modern’s Turbine hall with 100 million porcelain Sunflower seeds. These seeds were painted by Chinese people who were paid well for their work by Ai Weiwei.
Ai Weiwei is a philosopher and a good guy. He is an inspiration to me. Check out some of his work online.
